Experimental study on the compression behavior of long timber column strengthened with the novel hybrid fiber sheets

Abstract Long timber columns are widely used in traditional structures worldwide; however, many of them possess bearing capacity issues and have to be strengthened. The current study aims develop the novel Hybrid fiber reinforced polymers (HFRP) sheets suitable for long columns. In first stage, six HFRP were designed, evaluation these was carried out by tensile tests Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) tests. Secondly, compression test, two sets 36 designed utilizing types sheets. Finally, effects different sheet strengthening methods on compressive performance investigated. findings reveal that bidirectional excellent case using one-layer interval reinforcement, can increased 22.27%, which is 12.15–17.81% higher than unidirectional Compared with two-layer reinforcement from 0.91% 5.35%. study's intended provide an essential scientific foundation advancement fiber-reinforced column technology preservation heritage structures.
